Online Therapy

Online therapy, wherever you are

Online therapy is counselling that happens over a video call or by telephone, so we can meet wherever you feel most at ease. It works just as well as sitting in the same room, without any of the travel.

I'm Rowena, a qualified integrative counsellor and psychotherapist. I'm based in Surrey and work with people right across the UK, and sometimes further afield, entirely online.

What online therapy actually is

Online therapy is not a lesser version of counselling. It is the same work, the same care and the same relationship, held over a screen or a phone line instead of across a room. We agree a regular time, you find a private spot where you won't be interrupted, and we talk.

For a lot of people it quickly stops feeling like a novelty. Once we're a few minutes in, you are simply talking to someone who is listening. Many clients tell me they feel more comfortable opening up from their own home, with a cup of tea nearby and their own things around them.

I draw on a range of approaches, including person-centred, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic ideas and creative work, and I shape our sessions around you rather than fitting you into one method. That flexibility carries over to online work without any loss.

Is online therapy right for you?

Online therapy suits most people, and it is a particularly good fit if you would rather talk from home, if you live abroad or away from easy transport, or if work and family make it hard to travel to a fixed appointment. It also helps when leaving the house feels like a lot right now, which is often the case when you are struggling.

There are a few things worth being honest about. You will need a private space where you can talk freely, and a reasonably steady internet connection or phone signal. If your home is never quite private, or if you know you do better with someone physically in the room, online may not be the easiest fit, and that is completely fine. We can talk it through in a free consultation and you can decide what feels right. My work is with adults over the age of 18.

What a session looks like

We meet by Google Meet, Zoom, or telephone, whichever suits you best. Sessions last 60 minutes and usually take place weekly for the first six weeks. That consistency helps build trust and lets us work more effectively together over time, and we can review the pattern as we go.

There is nothing you need to prepare. You don't have to have the right words ready or know exactly what you want from counselling yet. We go at your pace, and my role is to listen, to help you feel understood, and to gently support you as you explore what matters to you. Everything we talk about is confidential, within the usual professional and ethical limits. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work to their ethical framework.

Every option starts with a free, optional 20-minute telephone consultation, a relaxed chance to ask questions and see whether we are a good fit, before you decide on anything.

Fees

Online therapy is £60 / session. There are no hidden costs, and your free 20-minute telephone consultation is always at no charge.

Common questions

Is online therapy as effective as seeing someone in person?

Yes. For most people online counselling works just as well as meeting face to face. The relationship and the work are the same, and only the setting changes. Many people find it easier to open up from their own home.

What do I need for an online session?

A private space where you won't be interrupted, and a device with a camera and microphone for video, or a phone if we work by telephone. A reasonably steady connection helps. That is really all you need.

Which platform do you use?

Sessions take place by Google Meet, Zoom, or telephone, whichever you are most comfortable with. I will send you everything you need to join before we meet.

How often will we meet?

Sessions are usually weekly for the first six weeks, which helps build trust and momentum. After that we review together and settle into a rhythm that suits you.

How do I get started?

The first step is a free 20-minute telephone consultation. It is a no-pressure conversation to ask questions and get a feel for working together. If it feels right, we arrange your first session at a time that works for you.

You don't have to have everything figured out before reaching out.

Choose a time that suits you and take that first step. If it feels easier, you can start with a free 20-minute telephone consultation, a simple, no-pressure conversation to help you decide what's right for you.
