Cookie Policy
Safar Counselling
Effective date: to be confirmed at launch
This Cookie Policy explains how Safar Counselling ("I", "me", "my") uses cookies and similar technologies on safarcounselling.co.uk. It should be read alongside my Privacy Policy.
I comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR). This means I only set non-essential cookies on your device after you have given your consent.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device when you visit. They help the website work properly, remember your preferences, and collect information about how the site is used.
I also use similar technologies such as tracking pixels and tags. For ease, I refer to all of them as "cookies" in this policy.
2. Types of cookies I use
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to work and to remember your cookie choice. They let you navigate the site and use its features. They do not require your consent. This includes the small preference cookie set when you make a choice in the cookie banner, so I can remember it on your next visit.
Your display options
If you use the Display options panel to change how this site looks, your choices are saved on your device under the name begin-a11y-v1. It records only the settings you picked, such as text size, spacing, typeface, contrast, transparency, focus outline, underlined links, reduced motion and larger tap targets.
This is kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie, and it is never sent to me or to anyone else. I cannot see what you have set. It does not need your consent because it exists only to carry out something you asked for, and asking each time would mean a preference that forgets itself on every page. I still list it here because everything this site stores on your device is listed here. Pressing Reset all in the panel deletes the record completely.
Analytics cookies
I do not currently use analytics or tag-management cookies on this site. If I add analytics in future (for example Google Analytics), those cookies will only load after you have given consent, and I will list them here first.
3. How I ask for your consent
The first time you visit my website, a cookie banner will appear asking you to choose which cookies you allow. You can:
- Accept all cookies.
- Reject all non-essential cookies.
- Choose which categories of cookies to accept.
Non-essential cookies will not be set until you have given consent. You can change your preferences at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.
4. Third-party cookies
I do not currently allow any third parties to set cookies through my website. If that changes in future (for example if I add analytics), those third parties will have their own privacy and cookie policies, which I recommend you review, and their cookies will only load after you have given consent.
5. Managing cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you manage cookies through their settings. You can usually block cookies, delete cookies, or set the browser to alert you when a cookie is being set. Blocking cookies may stop some parts of the website from working properly.
Guides for common browsers:
- Chrome: support.google.com/chrome
- Safari: support.apple.com/en-gb/safari
- Firefox: support.mozilla.org
- Edge: support.microsoft.com
6. Do Not Track signals
Some browsers can send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond, and I do not currently respond to these signals. You can still manage your preferences through the cookie banner.
7. Changes to this Cookie Policy
I may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The latest version is always available on my website. The effective date at the top shows when it was last updated.
